Flowers for Valentine Day have been traditional gifts since the Middle Ages. This was when the tradition of courtly love flourished and they became associated with romantic love. Lovers show their feelings for each other by giving flowers, cards, and/or candy.
Roses are considered to be the symbols of love. They are the most given flowers on all holidays but most especially on Valentines Day. They became the popular flower to give in the seventeenth century because of the belief that Red Rose was the favorite flower of the Roman goddess of love, Venus.
The most popular arrangement is the so called signature rose, which is a single red rose in a small group of baby’s breath. These symbolize eternal love and romance. But there are millions of other arrangements that are given.
Different colors mean different things. Red stands for eternal love, courage, passion, and respect. Therefore red roses given to a lover stands for everlasting romantic love and passion.
White roses are symbols of purity and innocence and typically say ‘I miss you’ or ‘You are heavenly’. Yellow roses are symbols of friendship, joy, freedom, hope, and celebration. These are usually given to say ‘Let’s be friends’.
Pink roses mean many things. From ‘I love you’ to ‘Let’s be friends’. They generally symbolize sweetness and gentleness. Lilac roses symbolize love at first sight, while coral and orange indicate desire.
Colors mixed together convey different messages. For instance, red and yellow roses together generally means happiness and celebration, while yellow and orange say ‘I’m passionate about you’.
There are many other beautiful flowers for Valentine Day. Lilies, tulips, carnations, calla lilies, and mixed bouquets.
So when you are looking for flowers for Valentines Day, be sure they say what you want them to say. Make it a bouquet that will be remembered for a long time and the feelings that go with it will be remembered longer.
